How to register

As a registered taxpayer you can sign-up to use the SARS eFiling service which allows you not only to file a return, make payments to SARS or request a tax clearance certificate but also gives you access to many other  benefits via an electronic platform.
 
To register as an eFiler visit the SARS eFiling website www.sarsefiling.co.za and click on REGISTER. It should only take you five to ten minutes to go through the six-step process. 
 
Depending on your needs, you can register as an individual taxpayer, a Tax Practitioner or as an Organisation.  SARS will recognise you as an electronic filer once your eFiling registration is complete. 
 
Top Tip: For individuals the account is automatically activated, you don’t have to fax a summary of registration. If you are registering as an organisation or Tax Practitioner, make sure you fax a copy of your ID and the signed summary of your registration form to 011 602 5312 to finalise your eFiling registration. All new SARS eFiling profiles are activated within 48 hours. Where a registration is not approved within the 48 hours, please check for any correspondence from SARS by selecting Home; User and then Pending Registration, for further requirements regarding the processing of your eFiling registration.

How do I upload supporting documents (relevant material) on eFiling?
To upload supporting documents (relevant material), follow these steps: Logon to eFiling Select: Returns Returns History The applicable type of tax (e.g. ITR12, Employees Tax, etc.) - a list of all returns/declarations sent will be shown

How do I print a summary of my eFiling registration?
To finalise your eFiling registration, a signed copy of your summary of registration must be faxed to (011) 602 5312, with a copy of your ID.

When uploading supporting documents to eFiling, I get an error message 'the document can not be converted'?
Please note this ‘conversion’ error happens only on IT3b or RAF documents. These are PDF documents issued by a bank or a fund. These documents are password protected, but it’s not visible to the user.

When uploading supporting documents to eFiling I get a 'timed out' error. When I try again I get an error message, 'Upload failed: a file with the same name has already been uploaded'?
Please note, even if the document was not uploaded due to 'timed out' error the file name might have been recorded. You need to change the file name and upload the document again.
