The South African Customs Administration plays an integral role in the facilitation of movement of goods and persons entering or exiting the borders of the Republic. The core functions are to:

• Enforce Customs as well as related trade laws;
• Collect duties and taxes;
• Ensure the social welfare of the citizens of the Republic by controlling the import and export prohibited and restricted goods;
• Ensure timely clearance of goods and facilitate the speedy movement of travellers through South African borders; and
• Support our integration into the global economy in a way that benefits all South Africans.
