Tax practitioners who are eligible for registration will have the option to register either manually or electronically. SARS, however, encourages tax practitioners who have access to electronic media to complete and submit the registration electronically through SARS’s eFiling facility: www.sarsefiling.co.za . It’s simple, fast, convenient and cost-effective.
Please note that your registration number only confirms that you are a registered tax practitioner with SARS as required by law. It is not an indication of your competency, level of skills or experience acquired. Hence registration or a registration number may not be used for advertising purposes, to attract, obtain or retain clients.
Depending on the preferred method of registration, the registration will be as follows:
Electronic registration
Tax practitioners who prefer to register electronically may log on to the eFiling website at www.sarsefiling.co.za . When on the site, first register with e-filing in order to be able to register as a tax practitioner as well.
Registration through e-filing will accommodate the following types of tax practitioners:
1. Tax practitioners who are already registered “e-Filers”
-
These will log in as normal using their assigned login names and personal passwords.
-
They will select services and go to Tax Practitioner Registration to complete Form TP-1.
-
Please provide full details when filling in the registration form (Form TP-1) as this would facilitate a better understanding of the role and scope of tax practice in South Africa. You are however, obliged to fill in the fields marked by an asterisk.
-
On submission of the form, you will receive a registration number which you can print for your records.
2. Tax practitioners who are not already registered “e-Filers” but wish to register for e-Filing, as well as register electronically as a tax practitioner
-
Any person that wants to use SARS’s e-Filing facility is required to register with the e-Filing site first. This site can be accessed by logging on to the SARS website and choosing e-Filing. When on the e-Filing site, click on the ‘Log In” button, on top at the left of the screen. You will be asked to provide certain information. The details provided at this stage will automatically appear on the tax practitioner registration form (Form TP-1) which you have to fill in after registering with e-filing. Please fax your identification document as requested on confirmation of registration as an e-filer.
-
Once you have registered with the site and received log-in identification, you can either select the e-Filing services you are interested in and complete Form TP-1 to register as tax practitioner later, or vice versa.
