There are a number of small, but crucial, changes to Tax Season which should make completing and submitting returns even easier for taxpayers this year:
The ITRR (Income Tax Return Request) - A section is now pre-populated with the fields you completed last year. For those whose tax affairs haven't changed in the past year, you simply need to sign and send back to SARS. This year the ITRR will be printed in six languages: English, Afrikaans, Zulu, Setswana, Tshivenda and Xitsonga. The ITRR will be sent during the month of June to all taxpayers who did not submit their return via eFiling last year.
The ITR12 (Income Tax Return) – this year the paper form will arrive in the post with your IRP5 information populated in pink text. You can then write over the text in black ink if you wish to change anything, as SARS scanners will only pick up the black text. There are also certain new fields on the ITR12, including extra bank and travel details. In the medical deductions section, a new code, 4040, has been introduced for medical fund contributions not paid via an employer. Last year the code, 4005, was used for medical fund contributions both paid and not paid via an employer.
eFiling – There are changes to the look and feel of eFiling, the introduction of a complex tax calculator, a new Statement of Account – which will give taxpayers the history of their transactions with SARS – and enhancements to practitioners’ admin rights.
The Notice of Assessment (now the ITA34) has been completely revamped, while a new Statement of Account containing the taxpayer’s history of transactions with SARS will be sent to taxpayers along with their ITA34. |
