Filing period for Interim PAYE Reconciliation for Employers begins
Pretoria, 1 September 2010 – Today marks the beginning of the Interim process for Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE) reconciliations for the country’s employers, which is the first step in registering all employees in the formal sector for income tax, as announced earlier this year by the Minister of Finance Mr Pravin Gordhan, in the 2010 Budget.

South African Trade Statistics for July 2010

– The South African Revenue Service (SARS) today releases trade statistics for July 2010 that record a trade surplus of R2.0 billion.

SARS officials to assist taxpayers in their communities
Pretoria, 26 August 2010 – As part of its efforts to promote compliance and to get taxpayers to file their tax returns early, the South African Revenue Service (SARS) will be setting up points of service at selected shopping malls throughout the country.

Don’t respond to fake emails, faxes, sms's or websites! Taxpayers should be on the alert for fake emails from an address e.g. returns@sars.co.za or refunds@sars.co.za or fake websites or sms's which inform them of refunds to be paid into their bank accounts.

Please ignore and do not enter any details into these websites or take any action. Taxpayers should report all suspicious incidents to the SARS anti-corruption hotline on 0800 00 2870 or email phishing@sars.gov.za.
