What are the requirements when travellers leave the country?

  1. South African residents may elect to register their valuables which are identifiable with Customs prior to leaving the country, this is done by completing a form TC-01 and handing it to a Customs Officers prior to booking luggage in. The Customs Officer will capture the details of the items to be registered for re-importation on a TRD 1 and provide the traveller with this form to retain to produce upon their return as proof of re-importation.
  2. Currency limits are specified in SC-PA-01-06 - Excess Currency - External Policy must be declared accordingly. 
  3. Travellers leaving the country are entitled to export household consumables if the total value of the goods does not exceed R5 000. The declaration for these goods are done by completing a form TC-01 and handing it to a Customs Officers prior to booking luggage in. The Customs Officer will capture the details of the items on a TRD 1 and provide the traveller with this form.
