Pretoria, 12 September 2016 - SARS Customs officials intercepted a male passenger who was in possession of a 5kg cocaine package with a street value of approximately R1 438 500. 00 at OR Tambo International Airport yesterday.
Initially the traveller indicated he had no luggage. Upon further questioning the traveller admitted to be the owner of a bag that was allegedly handed to him in Sao Paolo.
A thorough search and scan of the luggage that included the use of a detector dog found three smaller bags that contained cocaine.
The traveller and the cocaine were handed over to SA Police Service for further investigation and possible prosecution.
