    Pretoria, Sunday 29 January 2012 – South African taxpayers have raised the tax compliance bar yet again.For the first time in this country’s history the number of individual tax returns received for any specific tax year has exceeded the 4 million mark.

    Pretoria, 25 April 2012 – Companies and regulated intermediaries that need to submit tax returns and make payments to the South African Revenue Service (SARS) for the new dividends tax have been able to do so from 20 April 2012.   • Promulgation of Tax Administration ACT 2011
    Pretoria 5 July 2012 – The Tax Administration Bill was promulgated into law yesterday (Act 28 of 2011) in Government Gazette 35491 of 4 July 2012. In terms of section 272 of the Act, the Act will come into operation on a date to be determined by the President by proclamation in the Gazette. SARS’s preparations for the implementation of the Act are at an advanced stage and it anticipated that it will come into operation within the next three months.

  • SARS Customs stops R7 million worth of cocaine entering the country
    Pretoria, 23 October 2012 - Yesterday morning, 22 October 2012, a male passenger who had arrived in the country on flight SA223 from Sao Paulo in Brazil was identified for further customs checks by the SARS Customs team at OR Tambo International Airport. The passenger had one bag of clothes and a laptop bag in his possession.

    Pretoria, 9 November 2012 – The South African Revenue Service (SARS) welcomes the sentence handed down this morning by the Kempton Park regional court against a Thai national and prominent kingpin of an international rhino smuggling syndicate, Chumlong Lemtongthai (44).
