29 June 2012 – South African Trade Statistics for May 2012

The trade deficit for May 2012 declined to R8.9 billion (Deficit of R1.5 billion in May 2011) compared to a deficit of R9.9 billion in April 2012, a month on month decrease of R1.0 billion.  Exports increased by R10.6 billion (20.4%) to R62.8 billion and imports increased by R9.7 billion (15.6%) to R71.7 billion.

31 July 2012 – South African Trade Statistics for June 2012

The trade deficit for June 2012 declined by R3.2 billion to R5.7 billion (surplus of R4.9 billion in June 2011) from a deficit of R8.9 billion in May 2012.  Exports decreased by R1.1 billion (1.7%) to R61.7 billion and imports decreased by R4.3 billion (6.0%) to R67.4 billion.

Trade Statistics for October 2019

The South African Revenue Service (SARS) today releases trade statistics for October 2019 recording a trade surplus of R3.09 billion. These statistics include trade data with Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho and Namibia (BELN). The year-to-date (01 January to 31 October 2019) trade surplus R5.32 billion is an improvement from the R3.70 billion deficit for the comparable period in 2018. Exports increased by 2.8% year-on-year whilst imports for the same period showed a decrease of 4.3%.

SARS releases the preliminary trade statistics for March 2022

The South African Revenue Service (SARS) today releases trade statistics for March 2022 recording a preliminary trade balance surplus of R45.86 billion. These statistics include trade data with Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho and Namibia (BELN). The year-to-date (01 January to 31 March 2022) preliminary trade balance surplus of R62.10 billion is a deterioration from the R99.06 billion trade balance surplus for the comparable period in 2021. Exports increased by 9.8% year-on-year whilst imports increased by 21.3% over the same period.

Rhino horn found in luggage at OR Tambo International Airport

Customs officers of the South African Revenue Service (SARS), in collaboration with other government departments, intercepted the luggage of a female South African passenger at OR Tambo International Airport which contained twelve (12) pieces of rhino horn weighing  30.7 kilograms.

SARS carries out search and seizure operations in various sectors
