13 June 2018 – SARS to host BRICS Tax Experts and Heads of Tax Administrations
The South African Revenue Service (SARS) will host the tax experts and heads of tax administrations from BRICS member countries, namely Brazil, Russia, India China and South Africa, in Sandton next week.
30 September 2013 – South African Trade Statistics for August 2013
The R19.05 billion deficit for August 2013 can be attributed to exports of R70.70 billion and imports of R89.75 billion. Exports decreased from July to August by R5.81 billion (7.6%) and imports decreased from July to August by R0.13 billion (0.1%). The cumulative deficit for 2013 is R107.31 billion compared to R69.91 billion in 2012
22 June 2018 – SARS reminds VAT vendors to submit outstanding returns or face legal action
The South African Revenue Service (SARS) is reminding Value-Added Tax (VAT) vendors to submit their outstanding returns to avoid administrative penalties and/or criminal prosecution.
29 June 2018 – Trade Statistics for May 2018
he South African Revenue Service (SARS) today releases trade statistics for May 2018 recording a trade balance surplus of R3.52 billion.
29 June 2018 – SARS ditches drop boxes and certain printed forms
The South African Revenue Service (SARS) will remove drop boxes for the submission of income tax returns and other paper documents, in its drive to encourage taxpayers to use eFiling for all tax transactions where possible.
9 July 2018 – Ten taxpayers sentenced for failure to submit tax returns
Ten taxpayers have been convicted and sentenced since April 2018 for failure to submit outstanding tax returns. Fines ranging from R2000 to R20 000, as well as admission of guilt fines have been handed down by the courts.
13 July 2018 – Goods valued at R1.7 billion bust by Customs in the past six months
The South African Revenue Service (SARS) has released its latest statistics of Customs busts for the period 1 January 2018 until 30 June 2018. The total value of all goods confiscated amounts to R1 732 339 421.
Implementation of the policy directive for the Administration of the Automotive Production Development Programme post 2020
The Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition issued a policy directive in terms of section 5 of the International Trade Administration Act, 2002, requesting the International Trade and Administration Commission to assist in the implementation of the Automotive Production and Development Programme post 2020 (APDP Phase II) in order to replace the current APDP.

The R18.94 billion deficit for September 2013 can be attributed to exports of R66.53 billion and imports of R85.47 billion. Exports decreased from August to September by R4.23 billion (6.0%) and imports decreased from August to September by R4.39 billion (4.9%). The cumulative deficit for 2013 is R126.37 billion compared to R83.60 billion in 2012.
