Pretoria, 22 December 2015 – A Johannesburg couple suspected of involvement in a sophisticated multi-million rand fraudulent VAT refund scam, were arrested earlier today.
Mr Fazel Karodia and his wife Amina, both 43 years old, appeared in the Johannesburg Regional Court, where they were released on bail of R75 000 and R25 000 respectively. The case has been postponed to 20 January 2016.
The suspected loss to the fiscus amounts to approximately R51million. More arrests are pending.
