26 January 2017 – SARS busts 28.2kg of ecstasy and cocaine in 48-hours

Pretoria, Thursday 26 January 2017 – SARS Customs intercepted 28kg of Ecstasy and Cocaine estimated at over R8-million in two separate incidents at the OR Tambo International Airport in the last 48 hours.
In yesterday’s incident, a detector dog reacted positively to a shipment from Sao Paulo via Johannesburg in transit to Windhoek at the OR Tambo Airport.
Twelve containers of cream were confirmed to be 15kg of cocaine estimated at R4 315 500.
In an earlier incident SARS Customs officials intercepted 13.2kg of Ecstasy at the Johannesburg International Mail Centre on Tuesday.
The drugs estimated at street value of R3 960 000 were on route to Sweden from Malawi.
The discovery was made when alert customs officials noticed the seals of containers containing cream were damaged. Upon further inspection officials discovered the drugs in 42 containers.  A drug test confirmed the contents to be Ecstasy.
The goods were handed over to the South African Police for further investigation.
