5 February 2016 – Two men in court for R8-Million VAT fraud

Pretoria, Friday 5 February 2018 – TWO men arrested for allegedly defrauding SARS of almost R8-million will appear at the Johannesburg Magistrate court today (Friday  5 February.)
The men were arrested when SARS enforcement officials accompanied SA Police Service members to raid premises in Johannesburg. They confiscated 15 computers and passports.
The men were busted following intensive investigations that indicated the accused with 15 other individuals and entities committed fraud by misrepresentation. They allegedly submitted 105 VAT returns of at least 19 entities with false statements to claim refunds.
The two have allegedly defrauded SARS of actual prejudice R5 878 734 and a potential amount of R2 092 238 of this VAT fraud. The total amount is R7 970 975.
