Pretoria, 7 August 2012 – The National Border Control Operational Committee has advised that the following Border Posts between South Africa and Lesotho have been affected by the current extremely cold weather conditions.

In the Free State,

  • The Monantsha Pass Border Post is experiencing heavy snowfalls which is having a serious negative impact on border operations. The situation is classed as dangerous and travellers are being advised not to try and use the crossing until further notice.
  • The Caledonspoort Border Post has been closed as a result of extremely heavy snowfalls, and will remain closed until further notice.

In the Eastern Cape,

  • The Qacha’s Nek Border Post is closed as a result of extremely heavy snowfalls on the route to the Post, and will remain closed until further notice.
  • The Telle Bridge, Ongeluks Nek and Ramatsiliso Border Posts remain open, but are inaccessible to heavy vehicles as a result of heavy snowfalls.
