26 December 2015 – SARS Customs officials arrested two Mozambican males for allegedly smuggling R76-million at the Lebombo border post

Pretoria, 26 December 2015 – SARS Customs officials arrested two Mozambican males for allegedly smuggling R76-million at the Lebombo border post in Komatipoort, Mpumalanga on Christmas day at 5.40am.

The men and R76 493 523 have been handed over to the police for further investigation.

They were travelling from Mozambique into the Republic of South Africa when a physical search of the silver Toyota Hilux revealed a false compartment in the load bin of the vehicle.

A thorough search discovered plastic bags containing undeclared currency that totalled R76 493 523.

In terms of procedure, all travellers are expected to declare all currency in their possession upon entering or leaving the country.
