7 September 2017 – SARS detector dogs find 2.2 kg cocaine bullets in socks
SARS Customs and the Detector Dog Unit intercepted 2.2kg of cocaine bullets estimated at R632 000 in a plane from Brazil at OR Tambo International Airport on Wednesday,6 September 2017.
12 September 2017 – SARS Customs intercepts 700 chicken packages at Beitbridge
SARS Customs officials intercepted a truck carrying 700 packages of chicken estimated at R711 000 from South Africa to Zimbabwe at Beitbridge border post on Sunday, 10th September 2017.

Businessman gets 5-year jail term for VAT fraud
A businessman who used false tax invoices in the calculations of VAT Output and Input tax was sentenced to five years direct imprisonment for fraud this week.
5 October 2021 – Destruction of illicit cigarettes valued at R20m
The South African Revenue Service (SARS) through its Customs division, will destroy an illicit consignment of 1032 cartons of cigarettes valued at R20-milliion that was seized at the Durban harbour.
30 September 2021 – Value-Added Tax (VAT) celebrates its 30th birthday
Thirty years ago today, the Value-Added Tax Act, 1991, came into operation. Value-added tax (VAT) was envisaged as a more robust consumption tax to replace the general sales tax levied under the Sales Tax Act, 1978.
Trade Statistics for August 2021
SARS today released trade statistics for August 2021 recording a preliminary trade balance surplus of R42.40 billion.

22 September 2017 – SARS to proceed with Symington disciplinary hearing
SARS notes and welcomes the Pretoria High Court judgement that has dismissed the case with legal costs on the matter of principal specialist in legal counsel, Vlok Symington.
