SARS would like to thank all those taxpayers who have already submitted their Income Tax Returns. As of 08:00 this morning 341 356 taxpayers have submitted their returns. The majority, 243 388 were submitted using eFiling, while 97 968 have submitted at a SARS branch.
14 July 2017 – SARS seizes cocaine and us dollars at OR Tambo International Airport
SARS Customs seized 197kg cocaine and approximately R7 million in US dollars in two separate incidents at OR Tambo International Airport since the 5th July.
21 July 2017 – SARS busts 29kg cocaine worth over R7.4-million
SARS Customs officials and detector dogs intercepted 26kg of cocaine cosmetics estimated at R7.4-million from Sao Paolo, Brazil in transit to the Democratic Republic of Congo at OR Tambo International Airport today, Friday 21 July.

SARS has taken note of an alleged racism incident involving one of its officials at the OR Tambo International Airport on Thursday, 27 July 2017.

SARS has embarked on an outreach project to serve and educate the Deaf and Blind communities on tax compliance in specified regions around the country on Thursday, 3 August.

17 August 2017 – 95 years for VAT fraudsters
Three men, accused of fraudulently claiming Value Added Tax refunds to the value of approximately R300 million, were sentenced in the Gauteng South High Court on Wednesday, 16 August 2017 to a total of 95 years imprisonment – 25 years for Fraud, 25 years for Uttering, 25 years for Forgery and 20 years for Money Laundering.
24 August 2017 – Seven days to go before SVDP deadline
There are seven days left before the Special Voluntary Disclosure Programme (SVDP) closes on 31 August and tax authorities set to begin exchanging data on offshore investments automatically.
