Trade Statistics for March 2021

Pretoria, 30 April 2021 – The South African Revenue Service (SARS) today releases trade statistics for March 2021 recording a trade balance surplus of R52.77 billion. These statistics include trade data with Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho and Namibia (BELN). The year-to-date (01 January to 31 March 2021) trade surplus of R96.63 billion is an improvement from the R31.67 billion surplus for the comparable period in 2020. Exports increased by 45.6% year-on-year whilst imports increased by 22.7% over the same period.

The R52.77 billion trade surplus for March 2021 is attributable to exports of R168.29 billion and imports of R115.52 billion. Exports increased by R37.77 billion (28.9%) between February and March 2021 and imports increased by R16.23 billion (16.3%) over the same period.  For the full media statement, click here.
