How to make payments for Customs and Excise Payments?

Payments for customs and excise can be done through eFiling, Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT). Cash deposits to a SARS Customs and Excise bank account at any bank branch is no longer available as a payment option to SARS clients. Credit and/or debit cards can only be used for payment of duties and/or VAT for travellers.

What are Payment rules?

The Account Management System was implemented in all the Customs and/or Excise Branch Offices and the Payment Reference Number (PRN) usage is important in order to allow automated allocation of payments. You can refer to the GEN-PAYM-01-G01 – SARS Payment Rules – External Guide for detailed information on the payment rules and acceptable payment methods.

Are there penalties for late payments?

Interest and penalties will be charged on any late payments, according to the applicable interest. If clients fail to adhere to the provisions of the Act, then SARS considers it to be an offence.
