  • Arrest of SARS Official – 28 January 2011
    East London, 28 January 2011 – A 28 year old employee from the South African Revenue Service (SARS) has been arrested at the SARS East London office this morning for his alleged involvement in a country wide fraud syndicate whose activities SARS has been investigating for more than two years. SARS investigators carried out the arrest along with members of the Commercial Crimes Division of the South African Police Service.

 

 

  • SARS and TISA destroy R100m in illicit cigarettes – 4 February 2011
    Pretoria, 04 February 2011 – The South African Revenue Service (SARS) and the Tobacco Institute of Southern Africa (TISA) will today destroy illicit and counterfeit cigarettes, estimated to be worth R100-million if it were to be sold legally with all excise duties being paid to government.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

  • Launch of the 2011 Tax Season – 1 July 2011

    Pretoria 30 June 2011 – Tomorrow, Friday 1 July 2011, marks the beginning of Tax Season 2011 when more than 4 million taxpayers will start submitting their annual income tax returns to the South African Revenue Service (SARS).

 

  • Suspect arrested over illicit trade in rhino horn – 9 July 2011
    Pretoria 9 July 2011 – A Thai national, alleged to be a leading figure in the illicit trade in rhino horn internationally, was arrested at his house in Edenvale Johannesburg this morning by the Hawks following an extensive investigation by the South African Revenue Service.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

  • SARS Preliminary Results Tax season 2011 – 30 November 2011
    Pretoria, 30 November 2011 – The South African Revenue Service (SARS) has again recorded encouraging growth in the levels of tax compliance in the country with a new record of 4.86 million income tax returns submitted during this year’s Tax Season.
