  • 18 August 2016 - Process for Emigrants to transfer Blocked Funds
    Taxpayers who already emigrated and want to transfer 'Blocked Funds' need to request a TCS for FIA via eFiling or at a SARS Branch. When applying for the TCS in respect of FIA, you need to set the 'Source of capital to be invested' to 'Blocked Funds'. For more information, see the process for transferring Blocked Funds.

  • 18 April 2016 - SARS has introduced a new Tax Compliance Status (TCS) system
    SARS has introduced a new Tax Compliance Status (TCS) system which replaces the old Tax Clearance Certificate (TCC) system.

What is it?

In our continued effort to improve compliance and to make it even easier for taxpayers to manage their tax affairs, the South African Revenue Service (SARS) has introduced an enhanced Tax Compliance Status System.

Being tax compliant and ‘paying your fair share’ is not just good for you, but also contributes to the positive growth of our country’s economy which in turn benefits all South Africans.  
The TCS system is available for the following applications:
  • Good standing
  • Tender
  • Foreign Investment Allowance
  • Emigration
To apply for your TCS, you can access the TCS system by selecting the TAX STATUS menu option on eFiling or by visiting your nearest SARS branch. Should you have any queries, please contact the SARS Contact Centre on 0800 00 7277.

What is it for? 

The new system will make it easier for taxpayers to obtain a Tax Clearance Certificate (TCC) and will also allow taxpayers to obtain a Tax Compliance Status (TCS) PIN via the following channels:
The TCS PIN can be used instead of/ in place of a TCC by authorised third parties to verify your compliance status online via SARS eFiling. SARS has the intention of moving away from the use of the Tax Clearance Certificate (TCC) mechanism and in future the Tax Compliance Status and PIN system will be the only system in use.

It is important to remember that a taxpayer’s compliance status is not static and changes according to his/her continued compliance with tax requirements.  

What do I need to do?

With this in mind, in order to be tax compliant you should make sure that:
The new TCS system has at its heart the “My Compliance Profile (MCP)” functionality. The MCP affords taxpayers the opportunity to view their tax compliance status online as determined by SARS in order to remedy any non-compliance identified. The introduction of the MCP empowers taxpayers with more information about their tax compliance and underpins the replacement of the current Tax Clearance Certificate system and forms the basis for the overall compliance status issued with regards to TCS applications (for example for Tender or Good standing and others).

How do I proceed after completion of the 'Activation' process, when I get the 'Awaiting Registration Verification' message?
The message is an indication that you have successfully activated for TCS and in order to proceed further, registration verification is required. To proceed with registration verification, select the 'My Compliance Profile' sub-menu item

I cannot activate my 'My Compliance Profile'?
In order to activate the 'My Compliance Profile' you must have the TCS user profile on your eFiling profile. Speak to your tax consultant/tax practitioner or eFiling administrator to request such rights.

How do I know in which of the tax type (PAYE/UIF/SDL) the non-compliance falls, as these are combined on the MCP?
You can request a Statement of Account (SOA) in order to better understand where the non-compliance falls.

All my tax products are not displayed on my ERC01/MCP?
If your ERC01 form or MCP does not display all the relevant tax types, you must make use of the 'Merge' functionality on eFiling.

I have tax products linked to me on my ERC01/MCP but they do not belong to me?
Visit a SARS branch to request the removal of the tax product in question.
