24 January 2016 - eDNA roll-out at SARS branches
The eDNA security system is in the process of being rolled out at different SARS branches in a phased approach.
Kindly note that when you visit the branches you might notice that the system has been implemented in some of the processes. We ask your cooperation, and apologise for any inconvenience which might be caused during this time.
 

What is it?

Identity theft is real and eDNA will assist in safeguarding taxpayer information through validation of your information against information you submitted at the Department of Home Affairs. eDNA is a taxpayer verification system where your finger print and / or national identification will be validated against the Department of Home Affairs’ database information.  This will assist you as a taxpayer as well as SARS to protect your tax information.
 
SARS is introducing eDNA as an identity security system so that cases of fraud can be reduced.
 

How will it work?

Initially the system will be only be implemented in the SARS Pretoria North, George and Durban branches.
 
Please ensure your fingerprints are captured and authenticated when you visit this SARS branch for:
  • changing your banking details,
  • performing  all single registration cases,
  • dispute cases,
  • suspension of debt cases,
  • VAT refund reviews.

When will it be implemented?

It was rolled out at the SARS Pretoria North branch on the 4th of August 2016, at George branch on the 12th of September 2016, at Durban branch on the 15th of November 2016 and at Richards Bay on the 17th of November 2016. The eDNA security system is in the process of being rolled out at different SARS branches in a phased approach.
