Southern Rhodesia

The Trade Agreement between the Governments of the Republic of South Africa and Southern Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) was concluded on 30 November 1964 in terms of section 74 of the Customs Act, 1955 (Act No. 55 of 1955)and came into force on 1 December 1964.

With the implementation of the current Customs and Excise Act, 1964 on 1 January 1965, this agreement is deemed to have been concluded in terms of section 51(1) thereof, where it is provided in subsection (3) as follows:

"(3) For the purposes of this Act, any agreement which purports to have been concluded in terms of any law relating to customs and which was being observed by the Republic immediately prior to the coming into operation of this Act as being in force between the Republic and any territory in Africa, shall be deemed to have been concluded in terms of and to be and at all relevant times to have been within the powers conferred by this section."
